Sir John Moore's coat of arms with royal augmentation

Sir John Moore's coat of arms with royal augmentation, from the Moore family archive.

John Moore was knighted in 1672. His background is not completely established but he took the coat of arms from a Lancashire branch of a Moore family. In 1683 the King granted him an augmentation to his ams of 'a canton, gules, charged with a lion of England' for his 'many faithful services ... and unshaken loyalty'.
